Harnessing the search engines

The most popular today for people to find a website is by going through a search engine. The most popular of them all is Google, so it is important that you target their results more than any other search engine.  Here are some incredible statistics regarding search engines that you may not know about:
  • 75% of Americans who go online use search engines on a regular basis.
  • 56% of all Americans will use at least one search engine every single day.
  • 40% of all search engine searches carried out are for local businesses and services.
  • 54% of Americans will regularly use the internet rather than a phone book to find local services
  • 92% of all local searches carried out will eventually convert into a sale
The whole search engine industry used to be about very short “keywords” that would then help people to find the website they were looking for. Before people used to simply type in things such “New York Real Estate” into a search engine, they would check out the first few results and then make a decision on which one to visit. But these days consumers have become a great deal more savy when they are searching with Google, so the keywords being used have progressively become longer in order to provide them with more relevant results. For example, instead of just typing in“New York Real Estate” which may provide details of some good websites for that keyword, we might be looking for something a little more specific. Therefore, instead they may type “New York Low Price Apartments”. The reason they would do this is because they are fed up searching through websites that don’t provide them with the chance to see any lower cost housing, so we’re searching using Google rather than simply clicking on various websites. This sort of mentality has helped to revitalize the world of small businesses online. Instead of them just searching for a product or service, people will now look for a niche product or service that is to be found in a particular area. What this means is that instead of the bigger chains dominating the search results, many more of the small business websites are starting flourish. When it comes to Local Internet Marketing it is something that needs a large amount of experience and expertise. Without it, then you simply won’t know about how to get your business on to the front page of Google when local customers are searching for your product or service. The competition won’t be as fierce as you will be competing for more specific keywords, but you’ll still need to be able to target local consumers if you want to see your business succeed. As more and more people choose to carry out local searches, when it comes to Internet Marketing you will need to target specific keywords and along with specific areas. If you fail to do this, then you will find yourself in competition with the bigger players that are involved in the same industry as you nationally, and this is going o be a competition that you are going to be able to win.   Below the graph shows the massive increases being seen in relation to local searches.
